Aloo Pudina Raita

Last week we had a dinner planned out for our guest. On their insistence we kept it a low key affair. We decided to do away with an elaborate 4 course meal and make a simple one-pot meal. What better than a Biryani for such meals. As our guests had a strong appetite and craving for fiery food, we made biryani reasonably spicy to suit their palate. However, we were hesitant and decided to go easy by adding a Raita to our menu. We needed something that will complement the spicy biryani and will provide a cooling after-effect and so we added Aloo-Pudina Raita to our menu.

The great Indian relish Chutney is as multifaceted as it can get. The relishes like chutney or pickle are an integral part of Indian meal. It may accompany a rich man’s main course or form an integral part of a poor man’s daily meal.

Rajasthan is the land of Maharajas and warriors. The contribution of this arid and desert state to the food culture of our country is immense. Rajasthani cuisine boasts of some incredibly delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The dishes like Laal Maas, Hari mirch ka maas, safed maas and vegetarian dishes like Gatte ki sabzi, kadhi, Rajasthani Bhindi are some of the gems of this rich cuisine. It also has a handsome list of accompaniments that enriches its cuisine even further.

Let me be honest, we decided to make this tomato chutney last week as a stop gap arrangement. Let me narrate my complete story. I had sensed, looking at my past week schedule and by the scale of work left at office that this week is not going to be any different, which meant going pretty early to office and by the time I would come back home, I would be so tired that I would have no time nor energy to do any prep work for my next day breakfast.
