How to make bread upma at home recipe

Bread Upma is an easy and delicious South Indian preparation that can be quickly prepared with some bread slices and basic spices and herbs that are commonly found in an Indian kitchen.

Ingredients
  

  • 7-8 Bread Slices
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Urad Dal
  • Curry Leaves
  • 4-5 Cashewnuts Halved
  • 3 Green Chilies chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala powder
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 70 gms Onions Chopped
  • 70 gms Tomatoes Chopped
  • 1 tsp Ginger Garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice
  • 2- tsp Coriander leaves chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Cooking Oil.

Instructions
 

  • Cut the bread slices into equal sized cubes.
  • Put a pan on heat. Heat 2-3 tbsp Cooking Oil. Fry cashewnuts until it becomes light brown in color. Remove cashewnuts.
  • Add Urad Dal to the pan and fry until it turns light brown. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds. Add curry leaves and green chilies. Fry for 30 seconds.
  • Add ginger garlic paste. Cook for 2 mins on low heat.
  • Add chopped onions and mix well. Cook until onions becomes soft. Cover and cook on low heat.
  • Add tomatoes and mix well. Add 1/2-tsp Salt and mix well. Uncover after 5 mins.
  • Add spice powders- turmeric, red chili and garam masala. Add 1-tbsp water and mix well. Cover and cook on low heat for 3-4 mins.
  • Add cashewnuts, coriander leaves and salt to taste. Mix well. Now add bread cubes and mix well. Cover and allow it to steam.
  • Finally finish off with lemon juice.
  • Serve hot.
  • Chef Tip: - Adding salt brings out moisture from tomatoes and makes flavor more intense
