Stir Fry Cabbage with chana dal-Cabbage Upkari

Ingredients
  • 500 gm shredded cabbage
  • ½ cup chana dal (split bengal gram)
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp asafoetida
  • Curry leaves
  • 4 green chilies finely chopped
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 cup grated fresh coconut
  • Cooking Oil
  • Salt
Instructions
  1. Soak Chana Dal for 1 hour in water and drain it before cooking.
  2. Heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, asafoetida and green chilies and fry them for 1 minute.
  3. Now add soaked chana dal to the pan and fry it.
  4. Chana dal takes about 3 minutes to get cooked. Now add turmeric powder and fry it for 1 minute.
  5. Add cabbage to the pan and mix them all well.
  6. Cook cabbage covered on low flame using steaming process.
  7. Cabbage gets cooked in 25 minutes. Your cooking time may vary based upon quantity taken.
  8. Now add salt as per taste and mix it well with vegetable.
  9. Add grated fresh coconut and mix it well. Stir fry cabbage is ready to be served.
