Rava Idli Recipe-Instant Suji Idli

Ingredients
  • 2 Cups=400gms Rava(Semolina)-Wheat Rava
  • 2 Cups=450gms Curd (You can also use 4 Cups Buttermilk instead of Curd)
  • Cooking Oil
  • Water as needed
  • 5-6 Curry Leaves
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal (Split Black Gram)
  • 1 tsp Chana Dal (Split Chickpeas)
  • 2 Green Chilies-finely chopped
  • Salt
  • 2 tbsp Cashewnuts
  • 1 tsp Cooking Soda
  • ¼th Cup Freshly grated Coconut
Instructions
  1. Take a large bowl and put Semolina. Add grated fresh Coconut and Curd. We have used Wheat Semolina for this recipe. Do not use Rice Rava (also known as Idli Rava) in this recipe. This Rava is fine in texture and used in making recipes like Upma, Sheera (also known as Bombay Rava).
  2. Let's prepare a Tadka for the recipe. Before preparing Tadka, we will fry Cashewnuts. Heat 3 tbsp Oil. Add Cashewnuts in Oil and fry until it becomes light brown in color. Cashewnuts have changed its color in about 1 and ½ mins. Remove
  3. In same Oil, add Chana Dal and Urad Dal. Fry until Dal becomes brown in color. Now add mustard Seeds. Add Green Chilies and Curry Leaves. Pour this Tadka in Idli batter and mix well.
  4. Add Salt and Cooking Soda. Add water and using a whisk mix in all the ingredients. Ensure Idli batter is lump free. We have used 2 Cups of Water for making this batter. It must be of pouring consistency.
  5. Keep the batter aside for 15 mins.
  6. Grease molds with Oil or Ghee. Pour batter in the molds now. Fill in only till ¾th. Put fried Cashewnuts on the batter (completely optional)
  7. Now, lets put these Idlis in the steamer. We have put the water in steamer on boil. Put the Idlis in steamer. Cover and steam cook for 8-10 mins on low-medium heat.
  8. Uncover after 10 mins. Idli is well cooked now. Remove from steamer. Similarly, steam all the Idlis
  9. Now, we will unmold the Idlis. Do not unmold Idlis immediately. Leave it aside for couple of mins. Using a knife or a spoon unmold the Idlis
  10. Idlis are very soft and fluffy. Idlis are well cooked and soft from inside. These Idlis are light to digest. Let's make remaining batches and serve hot
